Kaspersky Lab says impossible to protect from WhatsApp spyware
MOSCOW, May 14 (PRIME) -- Protection for Android and iOS devices against vulnerability in messenger WhatsApp allowing hackers to install spyware via calls is impossible and users can only duly upgrade their applications and not distribute their mobile numbers, Kaspersky Lab antivirus expert Viktor Chebyshev told PRIME on Tuesday.
“If this vulnerability, as it is written, was really exploited on Android and iOS, it’s very dangerous. Due to the restrictions of these both operating systems, creation of protection against such situations is impossible,” Chebyshev said.
“Users should monitor upgrades and install them. The only piece of advice that can be given in this situation is not to make one’s phone number public to make its search for scammers harder.”
Media reported that WhatsApp has detected vulnerability making it possible for hackers to embed spyware on smartphones. The virus was installed via calls in the messenger even if users did not answer the calls.
